President Donald J. Trump announced Wednesday his endorsement of Senator Jon Husted in his 2026 reelection bid for the U.S. Senate.

Trump praised Husted’s dedication to the America First agenda, highlighting his efforts to secure the border, combat inflation, and uphold traditional values.

In a detailed post on Truth Social, Trump stated:

Jon Husted is doing an incredible job as Senator for the Great State of Ohio! He served as your Lieutenant Governor for seven years prior to becoming a very distinguished and well respected Senator. Jon is a wonderful man, has ALWAYS delivered for Ohio, and will continue doing so in the U.S. Senate. He is working hard to Create Jobs, Lower Costs, Promote Products and Services MADE IN AMERICA by our incredible Ohio Workers, Support our Great Farmers, Champion Innovation, Secure our Border, Stop Criminals, Strengthen our Military/Veterans, and Strongly Protect our always under siege Second Amendment. We are delivering BIG WINS for America. One of the leaders I know I can count on is Ohio’s Senator Jon Husted. He will fight to advance Common Sense Values, and put AMERICA FIRST. Jon Husted has my Complete and Total Endorsement — HE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN!

Husted responded, "I am honored to have President Trump’s endorsement and his complete trust to always fight for Ohio and to put America First as I serve in the U.S. Senate.”

He pledged to collaborate with Trump to secure borders, drive innovation, and restore prosperity to Ohio. With this endorsement, Husted solidifies his position as the frontrunner for Ohio’s Senate seat.

Husted’s press release called his journey—from an adopted child in northwest Ohio to a national champion with the Dayton Flyers—a reflection of his deep-rooted values of hard work and faith.

He has served as speaker of the Ohio House, secretary of state, lieutenant governor and now a U.S. Senator. Governor Mike DeWine appointed Husted from his lieutenant governor post to replace former U.S. Senator and now Vice President J.D. Vance. Because he was appointed, he must run in a special election in 2026 and, if successful, would be up for election again in 2028 if he seeks a second term in the U.S. Senate.

Other Republicans have not declared for the special election, nor have any Democrat Party candidates. However, potential Democrat nominees include former U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown, former U.S. Representative Tim Ryan, Congressman Greg Landsman (D-OH-01), and Ohio House Minority Leader Allison Russo (D-Dublin).
